Towards human focused personal computing

THE PEOPLE DO NOT YEARN FOR AUTOMATION interestingly captures a lot of points of view, and I think you should read it. It’s sidelining the point that made personal computing attractive though. It’s not the data.

For me, having more opportunities building tools to make people more human and give them more agency is what’s exciting, in the old spirit of personal computing. If the article is to be believed, people make up their mind in favor or against AI on the basis of the data grab part I reject.

I reject the toothbrush that builds a profile based on the data sent to the app over bluetooth, but rejoice the opportunity to adjust the toothbrush based on the individuality of someone’s mouth. It’s what personal means in PC, and it’s what we collectively need to claim back before software rules no longer let us. #technology
